Day 3 of the Anti- Encroachment Drive was conducted on SPR by GMDA today

-3.5 Kms green belts of sectors 49, 50 and 57 were cleared of unauthorised structures and encroachment

Gurugram, July 2: The Enforcement Team of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) today demolished unauthorized structures along the green belts of Southern Peripheral Road. The anti-encroachment drive was part of the special 4-day enforcement drive being conducted by GMDA to clear the green belts along SPR and make them free of encroachments and illegal constructions.

In today’s drive, approximately 3.5 Kms stretch of green belts in Sector 49, 50 and part of sector 57 were cleared. About 70 Banjara jhuggies and makeshift shops, 7 shops and 10 building material shops were demolished. Few banjaras and others sought up to one more days’ time to clear the land which was granted as the drive will continue tomorrow.

It was a major drive in which 50 police staff including lady constables were present. It was a difficult task but efforts were made that vendors take their daily routine material away from these green belts. Many vendors were spotted removing their items from their shops and loading them on tempos once the drive was started. Before conducting the demolitions, 2 days prior intimation of the drive was made and notices were served to the violators.

“A large portion of the banjara shops and jhuggis were cleared today. GMDA will continue such drives across other areas where rampant encroachment is being detected on the green belts in order to develop them in a more planned manner. The enforcement team will continue to conduct inspection visits of these sites and if any attempt to re-encroach the green belt is detected; a FIR will be lodged against the violators,” said Shri RS Batth, DTP Enforcement, GMDA.

Residents of neighbouring societies such as North and South Close and other sectors had raised several complaints to clear these green belts.

The 4-day long demolition drive has been taken up by GMDA to remove unauthorized structures along the green belts of SPR, as per the directions issued by CEO GMDA Shri A. Sreenivas to the Enforcement Team, in order to clear the green belts & make them encroachment free so that the city can be made beautiful and the green cover can also be enhanced.
