Gurugram, July 23: In the High-Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC) Meeting held today in Chandigarh under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Haryana, Shri Nayab Singh Saini; two projects of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) worth approximately Rs 83.85 crores were approved for allotment. The works include Construction of RCC Box Type Master Storm Water Drain in sectors 68-75 and  Construction of RCC Box Type Master Storm Water Drain alongwith Pumping Station in sectors 112-115.

“GMDA is working towards strengthening infrastructure and civic amenities in the city and the works of laying of balance master drainage network in sectors 68-75 and 112-115 will now soon be taken up by GMDA for the benefit of the residents of these sectors,” said Shri A. Sreenivas, Chief Executive Officer, GMDA.

To enhance the drainage network in Sectors 68 to 75, work for laying master storm water drain in approximately 17.63 KM length will be taken up wherein construction of RCC Box Type Storm water drains of various sizes will be carried out. The storm water discharge of these RCC box type drains will be disposed of in the master storm water drain which is under construction along SPR from Vatika Chowk to NH 48 & then ultimately into Leg-III Badshahpur drain. The areas covered include Sectors 68, 69, 70, 70A, 71, 72,75, 75A, 71, 73, and 74. The project for providing the storm water drainage in sector 68-75 will be executed at a cost of Rs 51 crores and the completion time of the project is 22 months.

To strengthen drainage system of sectors 112-115, work for laying master storm water drain in approximately 7.59 Km length wherein construction of RCC Box Type storm water drains of various sizes will be taken up by GMDA. The total drainage system is proposed to be connected with the master Leg-1 drain which exists along these areas. Additionally, to curb any overflow of the main drain during heavy monsoon season, a pumping station will also be constructed near Leg-1 drain in sector 115. The pumping system will be made operational during heavy monsoon periods to avoid any possibilities of back flow of Leg-I drain and of the new drainage system once completed. The project for providing the storm water drainage in sector 112-115 will be executed at a cost of Rs 32.85 crore. The completion time of the project is 19 months.

At present, there are three master storm water drains which carry the city’s stormwater to the Najafgarh drain, namely through Leg-1 drain (Sikanderpur via Palam Vihar to Najafgarh), Leg-II drain (Sector 42 via Huda City Centre to Najafgarh) and Leg-III drain (Ghata village via Vatika Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector 99 to Najafgarh drain) also called the Badshahpur drain.

Additionally, the work of laying of 5.2 KM drain length from Vatika Chowk to NH8, along the sector 69, 70, 75 and 75A is also being carried out in full swing by GMDA. This drain will function as Leg IV drain of Gurugram city once completed and will reduce the burden on Badshahpur Drain (Leg III) during heavy monsoon season.
