Gurugram, 6 August: A plantation drive was held today at Sanath Road, which is now the first of its kind Model Street for not just Gurugram but entire State of Haryana . Shri A. Sreenivas, Chief Executive Officer, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) was the Chief Guest at the Plantation Drive. Over 50 trees and 500 shrubs were planted today to further beautify and enhance the utility of this corridor.
“The Sanath Road has emerged as a shining example of how well-planned and sustainably developed road infrastructure can be of immense benefit to the public at large. The Sanath Road is a Model Street for Gurugram and we will adopt such best practices for further developing similar environmentally and pedestrian-friendly roads in the city. Today’s plantation drive further strengthens our commitment to creating a greener and cleaner Gurugram,” said CEO GMDA.
A total of 700 trees and 15000 shrubs will be planted under this project for creation of a continuous planted streetscape corridor for biodiversity, thermal comfort and planting benefits. 100% native trees species that are indigenous to the region have been introduced along the street to reap benefits including ecological adaptation, absorption of pollution, soil restoration, stormwater management, as well as health and well-being. Additionally, over 300 mature and smaller trees were also saved during the redevelopment phase and not a single tree in the entire stretch has been uprooted during the course of the project.
The Sanath Road redevelopment project represents a collective effort involving GMDA, Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG), DHBVN, Nagarro, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, and Raahgiri Foundation. This 2.5 KM pivotal road connecting Atlas Chowk on NH-48 with the Old Delhi-Gurugram Road, has been redesigned to make it more cyclist and pedestrian-friendly as well as to establish a sustainability model that can serve as a global example. The project is slated for inauguration by the end of this month.
The new street design facilitates better vehicular and non-motorised integrated movement on the road, with organised parking, drop-off and waiting areas on the complete stretch. The overhaul features dedicated walking paths for pedestrians and cycling paths shaded by a green belt, a bus bay for smooth movement of large vehicles, and pedestrian crossings.
“The redevelopment of Sanath Road has proven to be a boon to all the commuters and workforce development traversing on this stretch. We look forward to more such collaborative efforts to further create cohesive streetscapes for all Gurugram streets,” said Shri Manas Human, CEO, Nagarro.
