Gurugram, 10 October - Taking strict note of the rampant encroachment on GMDA green belts and footpaths; the Encroachment Wing of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) conducted a major anti-encroachment drive along master roads of sectors 49 and 50 on SPR as well as along the dividing road of sectors 49/47, in front of Park Hospital. The action was taken to address the issue of illegal hawkers and traffic congestion caused due to encroachment on these busy stretches.

DTP, GMDA, Shri. R.S Batth who led the Enforcement Team said that illegal encroachments have been removed for public convenience. Many complaints pertaining to presence of illegal Banjara markets were received from the residents of societies and accordingly action was taken. 

During the drive along sectors 49 and 50 on SPR Road, around 60 jhuggis present on 1/2 kilometer area were cleared. The vendors/hawkers of Banjara market crrated agitation and attempted to halt the drive but the demolition drive continued with full force. 

On the dividing road of sector 49/47 in front of Park Hospital, about 7 khokhas were demolished and many wrongly parked vehicles were also towed away.

The drive was conducted as per the directions issued by the Chief Executive Officer of GMDA to clear the green belts and footpaths and to make them encroachment-free.  

In this drive, present were DTP R.S. Batth, Assistant Town Planners Mange Ram and Satinder, Junior Engineers of the Enforcement Wing Sumit Kumar and Ashish Tyagi along with 50 JEs of GMDA divisions. 70 police personnels were also present to ensure smooth execution of the drive. This was the first such big drive which saw the participation of such a large number of officials. 8 JCBs were also deployed during the drive.

“These anti-encroachment drives will be further intensified with the aim to beautify the city roads and green belts. Strict action will be taken against the violators who are found re-encroaching GMDA area,” said R.S. Batth.
