One of the oldest markets of Gurugram cleared of illegal structures to make it encroachment-free
Gurugram, 8 November: Intensifying its fight against encroachment; the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) yesterday conducted the first ever joint anti-encroachment drive with Municipal Corporation of Gurugram in Sadar Bazaar, one of the oldest and most pivotal markets of Gurugram. The market which is amongst the most central parts of Gurugram was heavily encroached and the Enforcement Wing of GMDA led a heavy crackdown against illegal and unauthorized structures and establishments to clear the area.
The action was also taken in line with the directions issued by MLA Gurugram wherein DTP Enforcement, Gurugram and Municipal Corporation of Gurugram were also directed to exercise joint drives in all the important bazaars of the city.
“Some of the key issues were encroachment by rehris and vendors without due permissions, illegal extension by shopkeepers in front of their shops, unauthorised stalls on roads and footpaths, among others. These raised safety and security concerns especially for women and children. Additionally, the presence of encroachment would also hamper the movement of ambulances and fire brigades to and within the bazaar in case of any emergency situations,” said DTP GMDA, R.S. Baath.
Taking further action in the matter, the Enforcement Wing of GMDA led by R.S. Batth along with MCG officials led the drive and captured illegal rehris at various locations in the bazaar. Many rehris and illegal temporary structures were also demolished with the help of JCBs. All shopkeepers were also requested to remove the encroachment in front of their shops. It was also found that rehri owners & street cart vendors would pay rent to shopkeepers in lacs per month and they were strictly warned against indulging in such acts.
Various passers-by and visitors who witnessed the drive appreciated the initiative taken up by the Authorities.
“We will keep continuing and monitoring such drives in this pivotal bazaar of the city to avert any incident of disaster and inconvenience for the public at large. We request all citizens to cooperate with us to make Sadar Bazar a landmark location of our millennium city,” said R.S. Batth.
