Gurugram: A demolition drive was conducted today by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) along with MCG near JMD Megapolis building on Sohna Road.
Many complaints were received from the citizens regarding issues pertaining to illegal street vending carts (Rehris) on the footpath of the Highway making it difficult for pedestrians to walk safely on these pathways.
GMDA officers had already conducted two drives earlier on Sohna Road and directed the encroachers to remove the illegal kiosks and rehris illegally stationed on these footpaths. None of the rehris were then demolished by GMDA. The Field officials regularly surveyed the areas & found that despite being issued the warnings, the illegal kiosks & rehris continued to function on the same junction and were also increasing in number.
To rectify the situation, GMDA again conducted anti-encroachment drives on Sohna road. During the drive, around 500 meter stretch of greenbelts and footpaths of GMDA were cleared from unlicensed street vendors who were operating in the absence of permission of MCG. 20 nos of street food carts, tea stalls and khokhas were demolished, however, their food material was not confiscated and they were issued directions against being operational without due permissions.
The drive was helmed by the Enforcement team of GMDA, led by DTP GMDA and Nodal Officer for Encroachment (Gurugram) R.S. Batth.
“We had issued warnings to all encroachers to timely clear the area and not encroach on Government land. The team is continuously monitoring the area and offenders who continue to violate the law will be strictly dealt with,” said R.S. Batth.
