Pro-active remedial action taken to provide relief to residents
Gurugram, 20 January: Officers of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority on Monday morning took prompt action to resolve the issue of sewer overflow in Ardee City. Residents had in the morning raised the concern of overflowing sewage and the concerned team stepped into action without delay and swiftly took necessary measures to address the situation.
The residents were made aware that GMDA has been carrying out the work of cleaning and desilting the master sewer line along Kanhai Chowk to Sispal Vihar. During the ongoing work, the main sewer line had been plugged for the purpose of desilting and the sewer flow was diverted towards an alternative manhole via pumping machinery. A fault was reported in the pumping machinery and a tractor mounted pump was deployed by the agency to channelise the sewer flow.
In the late hours of Sunday night, few miscreants objected to the use of the tractor mounted pump and forcefully stopped its working. As a result, a situation of sewer overflow arose in Ardee City and objections were raised by the citizens.
“The GMDA team immediately took action on Monday morning and deployed super sucker machine to desilt the sewer line and support in quickly clearing the accumulated sewerage in the area. Additionally, the ongoing work of desilting the master sewer line was also temporarily put on hold and the plugs/rokas were removed to enable the flow of sewage and curb any further outflow to provide relief to the residents. We will resume the work of desilting the sewer lines shortly," said Parik Garg, Executive Engineer, GMDA.
